The impact of public education in changing lives and creating opportunities will be on show during Education Week 2022.

The annual event runs from Monday 1 August to Friday 5 August 2022 and will acknowledge the achievements of students, staff and public schools across NSW.

This year’s theme focuses on how education changes lives and celebrates the opportunities available to everyone in the NSW public education system.

Georgina Harrisson, Secretary of the NSW Department of Education, said the creating futures theme represented the work of educators and staff in supporting and preparing students and young people for a rapidly changing and unpredictable world.

“This year we continue to celebrate the journey students and learners take throughout the NSW Education system, focusing on how we are creating futures for our students, staff and families,” Ms Harrisson said.

“Education Week gives us the opportunity to reflect on our achievements and acknowledge the hard work and dedication from everyone working in our schools and across the department.

“From the first days in child care and early education through to primary and secondary school, then to post-school pathways, our education system is preparing young people to be agile thinkers and lifelong learners.”

Education Week will officially launch with a live stream  at 10am today, available on the department’s website.

Viewers of the live stream will be inspired by student and school stories and entertained by talented student performances.

The launch video will be available on demand following the 10am live broadcast.

Viewers can also watch our and see how NSW education is creating futures.

Other online activities for Education Week include a short film festival featuring films created by students over the past year.

The ‘Film by… Invitation’ short film festival will showcase 24 films created by students from both primary and secondary schools. The films explore a range of themes and highlight what’s important to students with stories from life in lockdown through to why attendance at school matters.

Film festival audiences will get the opportunity to vote for their favourite film in the People’s Choice Award.

Public schools across the state will host their own activities and celebrations with many holding open days, special assemblies and performances for parents and carers and the local community to join.
